Jamaicans and Beliziens Arrive in Haiti for the MSSM

On Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince, Godfrey Otunge, MSS Force Commander, accompanied by Rameau Normil, Director General HNP, welcomed the advance Caricom contingent that included Jamaica and Belize.

The Caricom advance contingent was commanded by Colonel Kevron Henry from Jamaica, who will deputize Otunge in the Mission. A Kenya contingent was at hand to receive their counterparts at the airport with locals, who included a battery of journalists, welcoming the new team that has now given the Mission a multinational face that has been lacking since Kenya’s first deployment.

Otunge addressed the media, where he welcomed the Caricom team while urging the contributing countries that are yet to deploy to do so before the end of the deployment phase that is about to end. He thanked the international partners and stakeholders for their unwavering support for the MSS mission. He reiterated that MSS was committed to ensuring that peace and stability prevailed for the Haitians to exercise their democratic obligations of holding free and fair general elections.

Otunge thanked the DG HNP Rameau for the good working relationship that has seen more targeted sustained joint operations initiated with formidable results recorded over the past one month. He reiterated that MSS will remain resolute and fully dedicated to its mandate as clearly outlined in resolution 2699.
